Apple plans to bring USB-C port to standard AirPods and AirPods Max as soon as 2024, according to Bloombergby Mark Gurman.
In an article outlining his specific expectations for Apple’s “Wonderlust” event, including new details about the Apple Watch Series 9, second-generation Apple Watch Ultra, iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max, Gurman mentioned that the company appears to be working on moving all Lightning-based accessories to USB-C.
USB-C will come to AirPods Pro first, with the switch to be introduced during Apple’s event next week, followed by other AirPods models as soon as next year. Gurman said the new AirPods Pro that will be introduced next week will not offer “any other significant new hardware features.”
In the long term, Gurman reinforced that Apple is working to bring health features to AirPods, including body temperature sensors and hearing testing systems. These improvements will likely come at some point following the move to USB-C across the entire product line.
