Since the next Made by Google event was announced on October 4, Pixel 8 rumors have been everywhere on the Internet. As usual, after enough information leaked about the company’s next Pixel line – including from its own store – Google went ahead and made things official, publishing marketing images of Pixel 8 and introduces one of the new color features on this year’s version. line up. Even with all the leaks, rumors and teases from Google, one big question remains – which color will you buy?
The usual suspects
If there’s one thing that’s almost guaranteed in this universe, it’s that some Black or white will be available for purchase on the new smartphone version. Google’s Pixel line is no exception. Porcelain – white, for those playing at home – comes next on the PIxel 8 Pro after being introduced on the Google Pixel Fold this summer. I really like the subtle off-white color and toned stainless steel accents of the Porcelain Pixel Fold, and I hope to like it here, too. It’s a timeless look for those looking for a more subdued color for their Pixel 8.
Likewise, I also hope that Google will carry over a specific element of Porcelain from the Pixel Fold – the finish. The matte finish is absolutely the way to go, and I hope Google chooses to keep it instead of the glossy finish we got on the Pixel 7 Pro. The glossy white finish may be suitable for Stormtroopers working on the Death Star, but it doesn’t work well on smartphones. Thankfully, the Pixel 8 Pro appears to have a matte finish, although it’s unclear whether the smaller Pixel 8 will get the same treatment.
Unsurprisingly, black returns on the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, although instead of taking the Obsidian name from the Pixel Fold, Google appears to be calling the color Licorice. Even more so than porcelain, the matte finish is important for this colorway. Google has a history of piano black glass phones, and I’m sure Pixel owners are cringing at the thought of going back to the fingerprint factory found on previous devices.
The Pixel 8 Pro prototype comes in matte black.
If the Licorice comes in colors similar to what’s seen on the Pixel Fold, then it’ll have a winner on its hands, but if it’s limited to the larger model, it might be difficult to justify the smaller variant if not opting for it. bumper .
A little color on your Pixel 8
Pixel devices typically launch with at least one physical device color-color – you know, something that isn’t just black or white. Last year, the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro came in Lemongrass and Hazel colors, respectively. But as we’ve seen, Google doesn’t stick to any particular color from year to year, so expect some new options to be available for this year’s successors.
The first is the light pink color, which was confirmed in Google’s official introduction of the Pixel 8. It seems that Google did better with the pink Pixel 8 compared to the barely saturated Not Pink color on the Pixel 3. If Google can make it a little more pigmented for us this time, the pink Pixel 8 could be a solid choice if you’re looking for a bit of personality for your phone. That said, for those worried about matte and glossy finishes, these renders appear to show a particularly shiny variant of the smaller version. It’s unclear whether the Pixel 8 Pro comes in this color and, if so, whether it will show your fingerprint.
The Pixel 8 Pro’s leaked store page shows off black, white, and blue color options.
Thanks to the Pixel Simulator leak, we’ve also seen that Sky is the new color offered on the Pixel 8 Pro. It appears to be a darker blue than the Sea color released with the Pixel 7a, and other leaks from Evan Blass show what looks like a matte finish. If you’re looking for a pop of color on the Pixel 8 Pro, Sky is for you.
From rumored colors to dreamy colors
When it comes to leaks, there are a lot of rumors about a light blue Pixel 8 and honestly, I wouldn’t doubt it. Google loves Sage variants, as we saw on the Pixel 5 and 6a, so I fully expect another version to roll out for this year’s phone. I don’t have a problem with the color, but I would encourage the company to create a color scheme that doesn’t remind me of 70s kitchen appliances. Plus, I’m looking forward to what’s in store.
Meanwhile, Google’s inclusion of Coral in the Pixel 7a is a breath of fresh air. Somehow, the company has been able to bring us vibrant, saturated colors on smartphones without the apocalypse. I don’t know when everyone collectively decided that we only needed pastel colors on devices, but I want to go back to the days of strong colors on great phones. The blue Google Pixel XL truly lives up to its name, standing out as a stunning device thanks to its stunning color. is Google maybe won’t bring back Coral for the Pixel 8, but either way, I’d love to see another round of the best color in years.
Regardless of color, the choice is yours
No matter what color the good people of Mountain View choose for us, I hope that the choice will give everyone a chance to express a little bit of their personality – something that has been missing from the color choices in the past few years. With the Pixel 8 series looking like the choice for two of the best Android phones of the year, there’s a lot to pay attention to these nuances. If you’re like me then you’re looking forward to seeing the new Sky color – I just hope it’s not the same one sky full of fingerprints.
