Mission 3 unboxing leak
In late August, a video appeared on X showcasing the Quest 3 device. The unboxing video showcased the upcoming MR device, its controller, and packaging.
The video highlights how the MR headset has a less bulky frame than the Oculus Quest 2. Previously, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg note that the Quest 3 device will have a form factor that is about 40% thinner than its predecessor thanks to the pancake lens.
Furthermore, the Meta Quest 3 controller is identical to that of the Quest Pro headset. Meta has redesigned the Touch Plus controller from the Quest 2 for ergonomic reasons.
However, with the redesign, Meta is eliminating the controller-based built-in cameras. Meta has said that the Quest 2’s tracking ring design has been done away with, with tracking being managed by built-in sensors and predictive AI. The controller also includes Tru Touch.
The video also suggests that the Quest 2’s fabric strap and silicone facepad have been retained for the Quest 3, and Meta has previously said that the product will have a more flexible headband for comfort during use.
